I opened my eyes and her face came into focus within inches of mine; flawless skin glowing from the fresh daylight that cradled us. She reciprocated my smile and joy to find her so near. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed flowering trees with playful birds fluttering amongst them. Without the slightest curiosity of where we had been I asked, “Where are we?”
“We're in heaven darling,” she whispered without hesitation; as if she had been awake the whole of time.
At that moment I knew… It was true! The warmth that engulfed us, the innocence displayed in shades of soft white blending through the scenery, the smell of crisp nothingness filling my lungs, the sense of total satisfaction and completeness rarely known to even the most perfect lovers, and the knowledge of confidence in truth; all rushed into my body at once.
“Wow!” was the only dumbfounded exclamation I could manage; and it was understood.
An eternity lapsed in a moment as I fell bored with perfection. Her face still so close to mine that I was breathing her breath and with a bit of playful conviction I said, “Let’s go back. Let’s rematerialize and do it again.” She knew all too well of the fun there is to be had in going back. Her expression of delight came in the form of jesting silence.
The silence washed away my fleeting impression of her loveliness as static filled in the gaps. White noise faded in. The darker shades solidified into black shadows cast by increasingly more rigid and opaque shapes. Memories flooded into my head. The past had already happened and heaven was just a daydream.
